Meet the Instructors

Brian Sapp and the staff of Sunair Aviation welcome you to Lake County, Florida and the Leesburg International Airport. We are conveniently located to serve you as the gateway to this beautiful area with more than 1,400 lakes. We are proud of our new and expanded facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. With a highly dedicated team and flight staff, Sunair prides itself on being Central Florida’s first choice FBO and premier flight school for more than 35 years.



Nick Larson

Nick arrived at Sunair Aviation in 2009.  Prior to Sunair, Nick was a collegiate instructor pilot at the Beaver County Community College (Pittsburgh, PA) for their Professional Pilot & ATC-CTI (Air Traffic Control-Collegiate Training Initiative) aviation programs. With over 5500 hours, Nick is a FAA Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor with single-engine land, single-engine sea and multi-engine land ratings with instrument privileges, as well as an FAA Advanced Ground Instructor and FAA Instrument Ground Instructor. Nick is a 3-time NAFI Master Flight Instructor earning in the NAFI MCFI in 2010, 2013, and 2017.

Chris Collier

Chris arrived at Sunair Aviation in 2005. Prior to Sunair, Chris spent several years in the Navy as a avionics technician. Chris was on board the USS Enterprise and the USS Eisenhower and worked on the world famous F-14 Tomcat, F-18C Hornet, A-6 Intruder, S-3 Viking, & the E-2 Hawkeye.  With over 4000 hours, Chris is a Certified Flight Instructor with single-engine land, multi-engine land ratings with instrument privileges.

Jack Ferns

After Jack graduated Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire with a BS in financial management, he spent 24 years with the family business “Ferns Flying Service” where he accumulated a majority of his flight experience. Afterwards, Jack spent nearly 14 years working with the state of New Hampshire as the Director of Aeronautics and then 2 1/2 years as the aviation museum director of New Hampshire. Jack retired and moved to central Florida in 2013. Jack is a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for ASEL, ASES, AMEL for the Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Instructor certificates.

Julien Pelan

Julien moved to Florida in 2016 and joined Sunair Aviation in May of 2017. Prior to Sunair, Julien worked as an aircraft control position operator at the Paris International airport and the Air Traffic Control enroute center for nearly two years. Julien holds an FAA certified flight instructor with a single-engine land rating with instrument privileges and holds an Advanced Ground Instructor certificate.
