Meet the Instructors

Brian Sapp and the staff of Sunair Aviation welcome you to Lake County, Florida and the Leesburg International Airport. We are conveniently located to serve you as the gateway to this beautiful area with more than 1,400 lakes. We are proud of our new and expanded facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. Nick Larson

Nick arrived at Sunair Aviation in March of 2013, following a corporate position flying the Pilatus PC-12 throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Prior to the PC-12, Nick spent nearly four years as the Chief Pilot at Sunair Aviation. With over 5500 hours, Nick is a FAA Certified Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor with single-engine land, single-engine sea and multi-engine land with instrument privileges, as well as an FAA Advanced Ground Instructor and FAA Instrument Ground Instructor. Nick is a two-time NAFI Master Flight Instructor earning in the NAFI MCFI in 2010 and 2013.

Chris Collier

Chris is a Certified Flight Instructor with single-engine land, multi-engine land with instrument privileges.

Jack Ferns

After Jack graduated Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire with a BS in financial management, he spent 24 years with the family business “Ferns Flying Service” where he accumulated a majority of his flight experience. Afterwards, Jack spent nearly 14 years working with the state of New Hampshire as the Director of Aeronautics and then 2 1/2 years as the aviation museum director of New Hampshire. Jack retired and moved to central Florida in 2013. Jack is a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for ASEL, ASES, AMEL for the Private, Commercial, Instrument, and Instructor certificates.

 

ATP, Gold Seal Flight Instructor CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, IGI, Seaplane Instructor, A&P Mechanic, FAA DPE

 


 

Taz Carnes

Taz joined Sunair in December 2015 and has accumulated over 1100 flight hours. Prior to Sunair, Taz attended Florida State University and flew as a corporate pilot in a Columbia 400.
