Redbird Simulator

Redfbird flight simulator at Sunair Aviation.

The Redbird LD is a high-quality, feature-rich stationary AATD. With wrap-around visuals, a fully enclosed cockpit, re-configurable construction, and a fixed platform, the FMX serves up a level of realism that is simply unavailable in other training devices on the market. Sunair’s FMX is configured for both a Cessna 172 with standard instrumentation with a Garmin GNS 530 and Garmin GNS 430 as well as the GARMIN 1000 and a Beechcraft Baron BE-58 with a Garmin 530 and 430.

Unfortunately flying an airplane is not without risk so it’s essential that pilots of all levels are ready and prepared for any situation that may take place. When a pilot is exposed to a wide variety of emergencies in a FMX flight simulator, the pilot will know what to do and will learn how to be calm under pressure. The use of flight simulators has saved countless lives over the years as pilots are properly prepared to handle any situation.

Does the FAA permit simulator time as hours towards a pilot certificate under FAR part 141?

Yes! However, the FAA limits the maximum amount of simulator time for each specific rating!

Can I do a flight review in the simulator?

Unfortunately, this is not allowed by the FAA.

Can I do my 6 approaches and holds in the sim? What about an IPC check?

Yes! You can do all six of your instrument approaches including holds in the simulator, however there must be a qualified Instrument Instructor present!

You can do the entire IPC check in the simulator with the exception of the circling approach to a landing. The circling approach must be conducted in the actual aircraft.

Is the simulator available for solo use?

Yes! You must schedule a simulator checkout with one of our flight instructors and have a signed rental agreement on file. Although it’s a great idea for proficiency, any solo operations will not count towards currency!

Can I bring a passenger along if I rent the simulator for personal use?

Absolutely! Only one additional guest is allowed in the simulator at a time!

It’s always the unpredictable that challenges most pilots during critical decision making. As workload increases, practicing the setting of priorities and experiencing how you choose to exercise your PIC duties and authority will make you a more confident, prepared, and safer pilot. When you practice and rehearse procedures, emergencies, techniques, precision, decision making in a Redbird simulator the outcome becomes very predictable. A professional and well trained pilot will be able to handle the unpredictable.
